I am now a bonafide engineering student of the renowned University of the Philippines.

yay!

'twas good, actually. aside from the fact that it was raining quite hard today and i ended up like something dragged out of a lake...
i mean, yeaa, 'twas good. the upperclassmen were really friendly. my priority number was 8 so i was one of the first students who finished the advising phase.
and...
I GOT THE GE SUBJECTS THAT I WANT!
kas1, socsci3, and eng11.
uh-huh. i wasn't enlisted in any blocks but i got the GE subjects that i wanted.
*applause for me* cooool.

some say that UP students are arrogant and all that.
we-ell... when everyone around you talks about the statistics of the UPCAT, how good you are to be able to enter the university, how hard it is to survive in the university, how you're with intellectuals from all over the country, ad infinitum, the tendency is that you take it all in.
and, most of the times, it is the small details that hammer the point home.

everyone already knows UP, the state university.
everyone knows its fame. its excellence. its prestige.
you enter UP, you already have this certain mindset regarding the school. in turn, you already have a certain mindset regarding its students.
and you get this contemporary version of nationalism: UPianalism. [or whatever you want to call it]

today. advance registration fourth day. freshman year. first semester.
the UP people already started to induce UPianalism to the freshies.
not that i dislike it anyway.
it's good after all. you feel confident about your capabilities.
the dean of the college of engineering told us this morning that whenever we wake up in the morning, we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and tell ourselves "I'M GOOD."
yea. it makes you confident. it makes you feel good about yourself.
and, yeah.
it also feeds your ego to no end.
not that i dislike it anyway.
feeding your ego time after time is good. humans need to feed their ego after all. it's part of life.
but if your ego is already well-fed... feeding it even more would cause an upsurge in yourself.
and you start to think that you're better than anybody else.
that won't be so good.
i mean, c'mon. you can't be better than the rest of the world.
and if you already know that you're good, then there's no reason for you think that you're better than other people.
you already are.
