HECTIC!!!
when it rains, it pours... i remember that saying.
craaap. so true, so true.
i wanted to borrow amiel's new book. it was the exact book that i had wanted to buy when i was in argentina. i didnt, though, since it was a hardbound book and it weighed a lot. it would no longer fit in my luggage... well, amiel's new book was the english version of that book!! craaaap...
but the thing is that, i dont have the luxury to read novels at this moment.
september 14 - that would be my ateneo entrance exam. uh-huh...
september 16 - that would be the physics contest... and i still have heaps to study!!
september 17 - that would be the PopEd contest. memorization, much??
today was the school elimination for the upcoming PopEd division level contest.
yesterday, mam gonzales told me that we would be having the elimination TODAY.
i was like "whoa... wait, wait... rewind, please. back up again. WHAT WAS THAT?!"
i slept at 3:30 in the morning.
damn. right?
haha...
the good thing was that paolo stayed up with me. we were texting while i was memorizing. and when sleep was trying to nail my eyes shut, i rang him up. and we were just talking. i was actually sort of reciting what i was reading and he was commenting... lol.
a very good friend, indeed. he stayed up with me! thanks a lot paolo!!
and, of course, today, i almost fell asleep in LOTS of subjects.. haha. what's new? well...

...and as the great firebird spreads its massive wings, it was gazing at the ashes of its former glorious self...

...and the great firebird soared to the heavens, its flaming wings a stark contrast against the blue heavens...

...and the great firebird looked back to the earth, its ardent blaze a symbol of hope that even though splendor and grandeur may fade, it can emerge once again, bearing a glory greater than its predecessor...

yesterday, i was out of the house from 7am to 6pm.
rosie told me that it seems as if im so loving my dear mandsci. lol.
well, we had journalism from 8 to 12.
why is it that mam frias keeps on telling me that i have a loud voice? she even told me that my voice that day was like a bizarre combination of soprano and bass...
and that combination is not pleasant to the ears, mind you.
LOL.
anyway, i managed to finish my editorial piece. it was basically a version of the so-called seminar that i gave to the freshmen students last thursday.
well, last thursday i gave a "seminar" to the freshies. the topic was "life as a science high school student".
the freshies are nice to talk to. they are really curious about stuff.
they might be noisy and childish but they react positively to the things that you will say.
well, then, as i was saying, we had journalism yesterday. as always.
saturday is really becoming part of my weekdays. well, ive known that when i accepted the position so i have no problem. besides, it was fun.
around 12, everyone left until the only remaining people were mam frias, mico, paolo, marjohn (he's not a staff member. he's an alumni. but so what?), and me.
we chatted a bit, we watched our best actor "act", we hang out...
then around 1, we went out to eat in the PINKHOUSE.
((i thought there would be a sign hanging outside with the words "PINKHOUSE" on it. haha... the house is pink! so the name. LOL))
they were teasing me, making my life hell, as usual. even mam frias joined. well, i still love you guys even if i wanted to smash a massive object against your cranial bones at that moment. hehe...
then, we went back to school. sir patron was waiting for me. we went up and grabbed the materials needed for my experiment.
one word for the experiment: COOL.
the reaction was fantastic!
i loved it.
then mico's fingers had these white spots. he told us that it was prickly and that it stung. we were making fun of him. guess i had karma on the way home.
we helped mam frias check the freshies' projects. damn. we were disappointed by their works. it was as if they made the projects a period before their english subject.
most were blatantly plagiarized. of course, we gave deserving grades to those people.
two of them even have the EXACT PROJECT. the only difference was that one was printed and the other one was handwritten.
we wanted to give a grade starting with a 7. we would have given that. if only mam frias allowed us.
most were made with very little effort. handwritten works are not bad. actually, handwritten works are cool. but kindly make sure that when you do handwritten works, you do it PROPERLY. not that kind of handwriting that can compete against a 3-year-old in a "worst handwriting" contest.
their project was to make a book with their own story. OWN STORY, mind you.
we have seen projects with a table of contents. flipping the pages, we realized that the table of contents was the only page with words. the rest of the pages were filled with gibberish doodles. crap.
we have seen senseless works, too.
i repeat, the project was supposed to be a book with their OWN STORY in it. not a song book.
definitely NOT a song book.
guess what was the grade that we have given.
copy-paste stories are a big no-no.
unlucky guys, the people who checked the projects are voracious readers.
and pc gamers as well.
copying the story of warcraft is not the most clever thing to do.
copying other games' stories neither.
even sinking to copying the story of teenage mutant ninja turtles?!
what the hell is happening to the strictly screened mandsci students?
damn.
it was deeply frustrating.
i can go on and on with what we have witnessed in checking the projects but that would be a total waste of time already.
anyway, we left school at around 6... we rode the jeepney. and in that instance of absolute stupidity, i placed the plastic (containing a liter of pure hydrogen peroxide, some lab materials, and the acid formed by the fentons reaction) on my lap.
after a few moments, my lap felt cold. turns out, liquid seeped from the plastic to my pants.
i panicked.
i touched the wet part of my pants. it was a relief when i felt that it was slippery.
it wasnt the acidic fentons reagent.
my relief was short-lived. the skin beneath the wet pants turned hot. then it began to sting.
the stinging got worse. as the jeep was moving along kalentong, my eyes turned itchy.
naaaaaa... i wasnt going to cry in a jeep! not with everyone looking at me.
but the stinging was painful. my left hand was clawing the pants. i was trying to detach the wet denim from my skin. trying and failing.
i was on the verge of letting a tear fall.
it was stinging. still. it felt as if i had a wound and, somehow, alcohol was being poured continuously on it.
then we arrived in my place.
i hurriedly changed into a soft cotton short. damn. the part where the wet denim touched the skin was red. with white spots.
i quickly phoned sir patron. he told me to wash it with soap and water. and to put ice.
damn...
it was stinging. and it was itchy as well.
then, i noticed pain from the fingers on my left hand.
the pure hydrogen peroxide seeped into the skin beneath the nails.
now, my fingers were in a greater pain than my legs.
a slight touch sends jolts of electricity to my brain. the neurons screaming PAIN.
it felt as if someone was pulling my nails.
i told paolo "is this how it feels being tortured by pulling the nails?"
i reckon the real thing would be way waaaay more painful.
craaaaaap.
i have always wanted to feel pain. to feel the pain of being shot. or the pain of being stabbed. (but im going to live)
im curious as to how it would feel.
i sound weird? blame the books.
well, that might be one of the reasons why i have always wanted to become a CIA field agent...
it is not THE reason. just one of the reasons...

mico's controversial stat when he was in an "EVIL MODE"::
"do not do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you"
-im quoting christ. that's how serious it is.

mam frias' quote:::
"do not fight with fools. people might not know the difference."

my quote:::
"dont fight fire with fire. you'll just end up with ashes. or a bigger fire."

im soooo loving saturday journalism.

pouring pure hydrogen peroxide to your enemy would be good. right? that's our opinion. go paolo! go mico! my evil debate partners...

im sooooo loving my journmates!
soooo fun to be with.
really.
even when im depressed or something, i cant help but laugh when im with them.
and i love being with them.
theyre actually like clowns. and that's a compliment.
theyre like a cool breeze that soothes a wounded soul. (you ought to be proud of that people!!)

anyway, paolo and mico were here last night. they were actually just supposed to accompany me home and then, well, they stayed for a bit.
we talked about various craps.
paolo's mind is very intriguing.
im curious.
im definitely intrigued.
he's one of the most imaginative people ive ever met.
he's more mature than most of the senior students of the current batch.
he's got an innate talent to create something amazing.
and he's got that ability to argue his side in a debate. he's actually a good debate partner.
and mico and i found yet another member to our growing "debate club".

a few days ago, paolo and i were talking about atheism and agnosticism through text messages.
he's an atheist and im an agnostic.
then, mico rang me up. he's another agnostic.
so, we were basically having a debate about atheism vs agnosticism.
a much, much better topic than science vs religion.
primarily, if we debate about science vs religion, mico, paolo and i would be on the same team. science's team.
but if we tackle atheism vs agnosticsm, we'd be standing on the opposite sides of the case.
it was a good debate (understatement alert!)
it was intellectually challenging... well, mico and i were in the same team. usually, when we're in the same team, there was only one person who could stand up against us.
the great mary roseann ramirez.
(peace out rosie! i needed your name yet again.)
and now, we've found yet another. the great news editor, paolo rodriguez.
(and it rhymes with ramirez... lol.)
but, of course, we ended up in a truce. like always.
in a good debate, no one ends up as a loser.
it never does.
when a good debate terminates, both sides always end up with a much greater confidence in their stand compared to their conviction before the debate.
no one is swayed.
no loser at all.
you just expand your ideas... you enhance knowledge... you share thoughts...
it is an intellectual battle.
you have to keep up with the pace of your "opponent". you cant stutter. you cant just throw in words coz every word that you'll use can be used against you.
like i said, it is an intellectual battle.

PAOLO'S JOKE:

There was a woman tied to a train. Then a man came to rescue her. Then, he brought her to his place and made love to her.
Later on, the man went to a bar and shared the story to the bartender.
The bartender was like, "What a lucky guy! Was she pretty?"
"I dont know.", the man replied, "I never found the head."

((i was waiting for a hilarous punchline, really... then paolo gave me THAT. i was like "ooh... yeah... right... i forgot, we were talking about paolo."))

anyway, i have to go. i have to write my version of the story that we created last night.

poof.
